Chapter 10 – Mitten's Meadow:

Chestnut was feeling particularly blue as the train pulled into Mitten’s Meadow station. He had not realized how attached he had grown to the triplets until after they were gone. He also missed his home and cozy bed. And the falling snow, while still glistening in the moonlight, had lost some of its luster. The trip was wearing on Chestnut and he was, to put it plainly, feeling like a grumpy-cat.

“Aren’t you joining the other passengers for dinner at the Snow Miser’s Café?” the conductor asked.

“No thank you,” replied Chestnut, “I think I'll stay here and catch-up on my missed naps.

“Well alright Chestnut,” the conductor said sympathetically, “If you feel better later, please join us – they do have the best cranberry sauce in all of Winterland after all!”

Alas, Chestnut was restless and unable to sleep.

"Hello there!" said a voice from outside the window. "I couldn't help but notice you seem a little down," the voice continued.

Chestnut peered out the window and saw the tallest showman he had ever seen.

"Hello!" he responded.

"I am Mittens" the snowman replied.
"I was feeling overwhelmed at dinner and thought I could gather myself in the quiet meadow," he continued. "But since you're here, would you like to join me and rest in my warm base?"

"I think I would," Chestnut replied.

He climbed into Mitten's roomy base and curled into a ball. He had not felt so calm and safe in days.

The two sat watching the snow falling on the large lake in the distance ahead and drifted peacefully asleep.
