Chapter 11 – Penguin Pond:

“Bring your mittens and hat Chestnut,” the conductor instructed interrupting Chestnut’s mid-evening nap. “We are only a few minutes from Penguin Pond Station and you do not want to miss the moonlight ice-skating performance!”

“But I do not know how to ice-skate!” Chestnut replied.

“No silly boy, you will not be skating tonight, the Penguins will!” the conductor chortled.

“What? Penguins skating?” Chestnut exclaimed thinking to himself that he had never heard of a penguin doing much more than waddling and eating fish.

“It’s true Chestnut! Not only do Penguins ice-skate, but their performance tonight is an important part of bringing enough cheer to the world so the holiday season can begin!” the conductor explained.

Chestnut followed the stream of animals towards a large pond basked in moonlight where hundreds of penguins had begun to gracefully skate to-and-fro. Music began to fill the air and the penguins snapped to attention in unison and began a beautiful dance that brought the audience to a wave of rousing cheers and exclamations of glee.

"Bravo! That was amazing!" Chestnut cheered.

The lead penguin approached the conductor and Chestnut. "Thank you for attending our performance," she said.

"Thank you for the beautiful dancing" Chestnut replied.

"Look up!" the conductor exclaimed, "the joy from the audience is filling the sky with sparkling cheer! This will certainly be enough to start the holiday season!"
